"WHERE LOVE SHINES"
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND MEDICAL CENTER
A life size illuminated paper mache sculpture honoring Florence Nightingale, the mother of modern nursing, and nurses across history and cultures. Originally on display at the Cameron Art Museum's 2020 "Art of Illumination" exhibition, it was purchased by a collector and donated to the University of Maryland Medical Center for the public to enjoy.
Her dress is collaged with images of nurses. Her apron is created from the hundreds of Nightingale's handwritten letters.
She wears the Florence Nightingale Medal,
the highest international award for nurses, established in 1912 by the International Committee of the Red Cross. It recognizes exceptional courage and dedication in nursing, particularly in times of conflict or disaster .

"CAPE FEAR"
NEW HANOVER HIGH SCHOOL
WILMINGTON, NC
"There are absolutely no words to describe the beauty of this masterpiece!
This was originally a sign used in the Hallmark Channel movie "One Summer" which was filmed in Wilmington. Then, it was beautifully repurposed into a scene from the City of Wilmington, NC boardwalk by Carolyn Colby at C.S. Colby Artist.
Underneath the paint is a blessing for the students.
Pictures absolutely do not do this piece justice. It is truly a treasure.
Staff and students alike are already raving over its beauty.
Thank you seems so small and insubstantial for this incredible contribution to the Wilmington section of the NHHS library, but please know, Carolyn, that your work is MUCH APPRECIATED. It will bring much enjoyment to all who see it for years to come.
Her work is amazing!"
